Export a backup file
- Go to Settings → Data.
- Tap Export data (.ember).
- Wait for the progress bar to complete while Ember gathers records and files.
- The system Share sheet will appear. Choose to save the
.emberfile to iCloud/Drive, or share it via AirDrop or email.
If your backup exceeds 200 MB, the app will show: This backup is too large to share (over 200 MB). Remove some photos and try again..
Import and restore from a backup file
- Go to Settings → Data.
- Tap Import data (.ember) to launch your device's file picker (importing requires an Ember Pro or Ultra plan; on Free, this opens the upgrade screen).
- Select your saved
.emberfile. - This deletes ALL data in this account and replaces it with the file's contents. It cannot be undone. Your app language and screen layout may also change to match the file.
Using Ember offline & sync queue
Ember stores all edits locally in an SQLite database. If you lose internet connection, you can continue adding contacts, notes, and logs. Any updates will wait in a local queue.
When your device detects an internet connection, Ember triggers an auto-sync. Under Settings → Data, the Cloud sync row status will show: Synced (fully uploaded), Syncing 3… (changes still in the queue), or 1 failed — will retry (temporary network errors).
Multi-device sync and conflict resolution
Log in to the same Ember account on multiple devices to sync your data. Sync data is encrypted end-to-end; the cloud server cannot read it. If you edit the same record on two devices while offline, Ember resolves conflicts using a last-write-wins (LWW) strategy based on update timestamps.
Delete your Ember account
- Go to Settings → Data and scroll down to the Account section.
- Tap Delete account.
- Read the warning checklist: deletes all contacts, notes, interactions, reminders, chat histories, profiles, and settings permanently.
- Note the subscription disclosure: Deleting your account does NOT cancel or refund active Paid plans. Cancel separately via the App Store or Google Play.
- Ensure you have an active internet connection (displays: You need an internet connection to delete your account. if offline).
- Type the word DELETE in the confirmation box and tap the red Send code button. Ember emails a 6-digit confirmation code to your account email.
- Enter the 6-digit code from your email, then tap Confirm delete to permanently delete your account.
Delete account
This permanently deletes your Ember account and all your data from our servers. It cannot be undone.

Can Ember read my backups or cloud files?
Your synced cloud data is end-to-end encrypted with your private passphrase, and we do not hold the keys. Note: a backup file you export and share is a plain copy of your data, so store it somewhere safe and only share it with people you trust.
How long does a delete account request take?
Account deletion is processed immediately. All records are purged from our sync databases and cannot be restored.
